In 2016, Gbagada FC made a second appearance in the Lagos FA Cup after debuting in the previous year and exiting in the first round.
Gbagada FC returned to the competition this time with extra motivation as we got to the round of 16 having won our first two games and the second being against an Ex-champion of the cup; AS Racine.
With much momentum within the team, our next game and opponent were Ikorodu United a side playing in the Nigerian Premier League. The odds were against us but we prepared as usual and was all set for the game.
Gbagada FC a Non-League side was on the day facing a top-flight Nigerian Professional League team, in front of the Agege Stadium crowd.
The first half showed our resilience and organization as we held on to a goalless half.
In the 54th minute there was a shock wave around the stadium, as we took the lead through a corner kick swerved in from Seriki Oluwaseun and was headed in by central defender Enogwe Daniel.
There was a relief from Ikorodu United as they equalised in the 63rd minute also from a corner kick. The full-time whistle was blown as the game ended 1-1 and a penalty shootout was to determine the winner.
We won the penalty kick 4-2 as we defeated Ikorodu United and qualified into the next round of the FA Cup. This triumph was one that made headlines in the sports bulletins across Lagos.

The Nationwide league two was our debut as a league side team, and prior to this game, we had won all our games conceding no goals which gave a boost of confidence going into the match.
This game was a decider of who tops the league to qualify for a place at the playoffs for the next division.
The first half saw a compact game from both teams as there was so much technical coordination in play, it ended a goalless half.
There were attacking sparks from both teams at the resumption, as there was lots of attacking play from both ends of the field.
Gbagada’s goalkeeper Olotu Alaba was sent off from a direct red card by handling the ball outside the box, during a Collins Edwin attack. He was replaced by substitute goalkeeper Quadri Sodiq in the 68th minute.
There was a breakthrough in the 81st minute as Fagbayi Semiu was brought down in the box, and the spot-kick was calmly converted by Hassan Lasisi giving us the lead late on.
The game wasn’t finished as there was a cracking nerve moment in the last added time which saw Collins Edwin been awarded a penalty in the 95th minute as a result of a ball-handling in the box from a corner kick play.
Goalkeeper Quadri Sodiq became the hero on the day diving rightly towards the path of the spot-kick to make a crucial save.
The referee blew for final whistle immediately after the penalty was taken and saw us qualifying for the playoffs.

Nationwide League One Div. Two (NLO2) Promotion Playoffs

The ancient city of Ibadan played host to the promotion playoffs game between two Lagos teams looking to secure a spot at the 3rd tier division league (NLO 1).
The Gbagada team and fans in their numbers took a road trip as we gear ahead for the big game coming up later in the afternoon.
Prior to this game, Gbagada has won all the matches played and conceding no goals. This was going to be the biggest game so far.
The first-half was a tightly contested one but we managed to pull off the two biggest chances created as Fagbayi Semiu and Oyeniyi Ahmed came close to get us ahead.
The game remained goalless at the break but we continued with an impressive performance until the deadlock was broken.
Fagbayi Semiu who has been brilliant all game was set off on a counter-attacking move by Jide Taiwo. The attacker dribbled his way down the left flank and sent in a perfect cross which was headed in by Jide Taiwo in the 64th minute into the bottom right corner.
The lone goal was enough to see us through the day at the final whistle. There was an eruption on the Adamasingba ground as the Blue Eagles fans went off with a joyous roar.
