WORD SPURS: FEELING GOOD.

With an impressive first season with the Blues, Eya Solomon is proud of what he was able to achieve for himself and with the team.

In the chat with the forward, he spoke about his decision to switch to the Club from another team in the community, his teammates, the fans, and ending the season with a trophy.

ON SWITCHING TO THE BLUE END OF GBAGADA…

Eya Solomon: ‘Everyone involved in football around the Gbagada community loves what Gbagada FC is doing in putting the Gbagada name on the map especially in the football sense.

‘This is a project you would naturally want to be a part of and this was one of the major reasons I joined because I know what the Club’s platform could add to my growing career.

‘I am equally thankful to my former Coach who also made the process possible and easy for me to join Gbagada.

‘I am proud and excited to be here because I know from where I’m going to go places. It is such a wonderful Club filled with amazing people.

ABOUT HOW THE FIRST SEASON PLAYED OUT…

‘Generally, it wasn’t a bad season from the team’s perspective even though we know we can always do much more and there’s always room for improvement.

‘I started the season on a good note as we won on my debut and I did well in that game but a few weeks later I got injured.

‘When I returned from the injury, I did struggle to some extent as I was trying to get my fitness and sharpness in place.

‘The NLO season was going to commence and I decided I was going to get myself ready for that. We didn’t get the qualification but we gave a good account of ourselves and for the team.

‘I think I had my best performances during the NLO season in Ikenne, and this gave me so much confidence to take on for the rest of our season in the TCC League & TCC Cup.

ON LINKING UP WITH NEW TEAMMATES AND BONDING…

‘The Club made me feel at home and I was well welcomed by my new mates who are all very friendly and helpful.

‘That also made my transition process into the team very easy and I was able to make friends from the very beginning.

‘For a group to be successful in the game there has to be unity among the players and the bonding in the squad is so strong and this helped us as a team especially during the pandemic lockdown.

MEETING THE CLUB FANS...

‘The fans of this Club are very loving and they are so strongly behind the team. Just before the lockdown last year, we had the opportunity to have an event with them at the Blue Eagles Connect.

‘When football resumed later in the year we didn’t have them with us for safety reasons, but whenever we have a game we get so much of their support online through messages on our social media pages.

‘It was indeed nice to see them all come out to support us in our last game which happened to be a final and I glad we could win it for them.

ON ENDING WITH A TROPHY...

‘I mean, there is no other feeling because I felt so good at the end. We had some ups and downs during the season but we fought hard as a team to finish strong.

‘Playing in front of our fans after more than one year, there was no other way for us but to win it for ourselves, the club, and the fans.

‘In summary, my first season with Gbagada was a success. I had a couple of assists and goals, we won a trophy and I know I can always get better.’
