WEEKEND BUZZ: JOB WELL DONE.

Fresh from winning the Championship Cup the gaffer was full of praise for his side reflecting on the highs and lows during the season.

Olajide Akinyelu couldn’t hide his expressions in the delight and relief he feels by ending the campaign at the Creative Championship season with a trophy in the cup final in its debut season.

The manager shares with the Weekend Buzz what it all means to the club, players, and the fans. What we look forward to in the coming weeks and months ahead.

ON WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP CUP…

O.A: ‘It is such a thing of joy when you see all your hard work yields a positive result in the end when it does matter, that is a big moment for every one of us at this football club.

‘We go out daily to put ourselves on the line, trying to always get the best out from each other and making sure they help the other person needs is there to be given when we can.

‘This group of players gives in their very best every single day and I am proud to be leading these sets of players.

‘To win the cup final with these group is everything I would have wanted and it was indeed a job well done and a very well-deserved victory.

ON ONE OF THE LONGEST CAMPAIGNS WE HAVE EVER HAD

‘Yes, this season was longer than our previous ones and this is what we do want and that was one of the reasons we joined the Creative Championship League.

‘The NLO (Nationwide League One) wouldn’t give us more than eight competitive games in a season as that’s the structure that there is currently and we need to be able to compete more competitively and have a bit longer season.

‘This season has been fun and interesting on every count and this is what we would like to have so the fans can always have something to look forward to and be entertained in the process.

ON WHAT THIS WIN MEANS TO HIM PERSONALLY…

‘This was one win I won’t forget soon because I put in so much effort on my part to study and prepare for the game.

‘At the end of the day, it was left to the players to do the playing and making sure they played to instructions and what we’ve worked on in the training sessions.

‘My pep talk was swift and direct and everyone knows what their role was on the day. So, from the very beginning till the end the plan was executed and the aim was achieved and this makes me felt so great and elated.

ON WHAT IT FELT LIKE TO HAVE THE FANS ON THE GROUND…

‘There is no sport that feels the same way without its supporters or fans and for football, you can always feel their effect as they form the extra man for your team.

‘Looking behind and seeing them gave I and the boys some boost and courage because we could loudly hear them sing out loud in pouring out their support.

‘It was beautiful to have the fans back on the day and to lift the trophy in front of them and the opportunity to celebrate with them was everything for us as a team.

ON WHAT WE SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR IN THE COMING WEEKS...

At this moment, we would rest and reset and looking forward to going again in a few months at both the TCC and the NLO.

‘Also, there might be a few changes to strengthen the squad and a whole lot of other business but I am sure we are looking forward to some exciting days ahead.’
