It’s been two weeks since the team returned to train as a group after seven months out due to the pandemic. Several weeks ago the government announced the return of active outdoor sports, but we had only waited until recently to be back together.
The Manager talks us through what the return to the pitch has been like for the players and staff, as he also gives some technical review on his squad as we prepare to go into the official season.
O.A: ‘It feels so good to back after many months out, for the players, it’s not been an easy period I must say. We were all working very hard in training earlier in the year preparing for the season before the pandemic hit.
‘We were definitely at a particularly high level as regarding the fitness and the intensity of the players in that period. So going on a break that long will tell on their physicality and fitness.
‘The past two weeks have been good in training as much of the work being done was concentrated on the subject of fitness. They spent time in the gym and worked with the fitness coaches, coupled with some light running outdoor.
‘We know for a fact that the season schedule will be packed and we have to be ready for that in the way we prepare. So, presently the mentality of the boys is focused on getting themselves match fit whenever been called upon.
The team during the week played their first friendly game against a Premier League side; MFM FC who won 2-0 and will be playing another NLO1 side this weekend to end the week…
O.A: ‘The game against MFM was a good one for the team because a team like that gives you a good test and the right kind of match intensity you would like to access yourself with.
‘I was particularly impressed with certain areas of the game and that could be brought back to the training ground and collectively we can all work on.
‘As much as we understand these friendly games also helps in regaining some match minutes and fitness for the boys. We on the technical end also use the games to analyse several aspects of the squad.
‘It is important that we try to find a balance within the squad and also the consideration of man-management, and that could go right into the regular season but we have to be deliberate about what our objectives are.
On a final note, The Manager reviews plans of the club on officially announcing the new players that have joined the team for the upcoming season and what the influence of these acquisitions will bring to the squad…
O.A: ‘We have some new players that have been brought in and the club will be announcing their arrival officially before the commencement of the new season. I am sure the club is only waiting for the right moment to do that.
‘The new players are already showing signs of what they can offer in their positions in training, and they will give us some boosts and options especially for the squad depth going into the new season.’
