Back at it for the third week since the resumption, it’s been all round work on the ground for the boys. Also having played two friendly games in that period with a defeat and a draw.

Blues Forward and Team Captain Fagbayi Semiu spoke with us and gave much insight into what the team have been up to over the past few weeks of returning to the pitch with the team.

FAGBAYI: ‘Coming back to the training ground with the rest of the team has been such a relief for me, it’s been a very long time and we returning has been something I have been looking forward to.
It is a strange year for everyone as nobody expected this pandemic to take most of the year away just like that, we hope for the situation to improve as the year gradually comes to an end.
For the moment, I am just happy to have returned to training and getting back to do what I love to do daily.

Speaking of resumption Fagbayi talks about the progression of the team…

We’ve been pretty busy for the past few weeks, on our first week we had to go through some medical phase, getting some tests done and checking our vitals.
Afterwards, we had to work on our fitness level for almost the rest of the first week. There was a double session daily as we had to work mostly inside the gym and have some light running outdoor on the pitch.
It is important we get ourselves back in shape and work our fitness to a certain level that will help us with match minutes. We can’t get it done at once, but we’ll keep working on ourselves as time goes by.
So far, I can say everyone has been putting in a hard shift in training and we are all having a good time doing that.

On getting some match minutes, the forward reviewed the last two warm-up games played…

We have played two games now and it was good for us to have some competitive feeling after a very long time out.
We lost our first game against a very decent Professional League side (MFM FC) and it was a really good test for us as a group.
I felt we gave a good performance on the day considering that was our first game after just a week of training, also the game gave us some kind of intensity needed after a few days of fitness work in training.
Our last game was also a very good one where we created a lot of chances but had to settle for a draw in the end. We can only take some positives from both games and keep working on the team.

Fagbayi on some final words reiterates on working hard on the training ground and producing effective outcomes with it…

We have to keep working hard in training because that’s all that matters. Whenever we come out to play, we would always have the opportunity to showcase what we’ve worked on at the training ground.
It is left to us to be productive when we are out there during a competitive game, we have to be able to produce positive results and be consistent about it.
I am excited about the season ahead and with the squad, we possess now, I believe we can expect some beautiful display and results.
